Hi there -thanks for checking out my site!
My name is Sarah Horne and I am fascinated by people and processes. I love problem solving, personal storytelling, and assisting others in their aspirations. In May 2020, I will be graduating with honors from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. During college, I studied Journalism: News and Information with a minor in psychology and a speciality in visual communications.
I am the chief marketing officer and workshop lecturer for The New Political’s collaboration with Adobe. As a partner with Adobe, I am the designated Ohio University Ambassador for Adobe, and manage all marketing, promotions, design, event planning, and social media posts, as well as present two Adobe sponsored workshops. These workshops are in collaboration with The Society of Professional Journalists and supply The New Political with nearly a thousand dollars for our independent publication.
Additionally, I am also the communications assistant for The RTT Collaborative non-profit: an organization dedicated to rural medical education. I manage all communications aspects of the organization and work on new communications strategy initiatives. Additionally, I design quarterly newsletters and conduct interviews.
Previously, I was the Digital Managing Editor at the award-winning, independent, student-run, digital-first publication The New Political. I was the executive manger for all digital content, promotions and the website. I oversaw a staff of about 20 individuals and collaborate with executives and reporters across our news, opinion, digital, social media and public relations sections. In addition to content, I was a mentor, leader, and educator for our staff and help with their development as rising journalists.
I was also the former vice president of the Ohio University Society of Professional Journalists chapter. This chapter has been honored as the number one chapter in the nation for four consecutive years in a row, and continues to bring in speakers and put together workshops that keep rising journalists knowledgeable on industry changes and skills. I was involved in all executive decision making and staff development, as well as being the main coordinator for a speaker event with National Geographic and The Cincinnati Enquirer.
I have studied in Washington D.C. twice thus far. First, I attended a summer session at Georgetown University, where I attended classes in History and Economics for five weeks. That following Spring, I interned at The Hill for The Hill.TV as a digital intern.
Additionally, I was an intern at The Cincinnati Enquirer as a breaking news intern and then again as a digital intern. I have also been a Public Relations assistant for the Scripps in D.C. program, as well as interned as a freelancer and photographer for The Athens News.
